Water Pollution Incidents

If we get test results that don't meet the water quality standards we have a process in place for notifying beach users. Find out more below.

The Bathing Water Quality Regulations 2008 set out our obligations for bathing water quality checks and public information during the bathing season. We take 9 samples in total; 1 before and 8 during the bathing season.   These samples are taken fortnightly from the end of May to the middle of September.

You can check water quality results for our beaches on the EPA website www.beaches.ie

There are permanent bathing restriction notices at Portrane (the Brook) and Loughshinny for 2018. These restrictions are in place because these beaches were classified as having poor water quality following the 2017 bathing season. Please refer to www.beaches.ie for the most up to date water quality results.
