Healthy Ireland is a government initiative which aims to create a society where everyone can enjoy mental and physical health, and where wellbeing is valued and supported. Healthy Ireland at your Library is an exciting new service which has developed from the Healthy Ireland initiative and is available free of charge in Fingal County Libraries.
As part of this exciting new service, we have a range of FREE talks and workshops relating to various health and wellbeing topics. Everyone is welcome to attend however booking is essential as places are limited. Please contact the relevant Library directly. Contact details for each Library are available when you highlight your cursor over the name of the Library.
Children’s Internet Safety & Cyberbullying Talk for Parents/Guardians with Lorna Lee from Barnardos
The talk is for Parents/Guardians on the topic of their children’s internet safety and cyberbullying, including time for questions. It offers Parents/Guardians the opportunity to consider how they can increase their child’s online safety and what to do if they suspect their child is experiencing cyberbullying. Parents are encouraged to focus on how they can monitor their child’s use and online behavior. Information will be provided in relation to the mobile apps their child may be using and associated safety considerations. This talk is running at the following Libraries:

Bully-Proof Kids: Practical Tools to Help your Child Grow Up Confident, Resilient and Strong with Psychotherapist Stella O’ Malley
We can’t always be there to protect our kids as they make their way in the world. What we can do is equip them with the tools they need to ensure they have a positive social experience. Based on many years' experience counselling bullies and targets, Stella O'Malley offers concrete strategies to empower children and teenagers to deal confidently with bullying and dominant characters. She identifies effective ways for families to cope when bullying occurs, including approaching the school authorities, communicating with the bully's parents and tips to tackle cyberbullying. Stella's common-sense approach will help your child, tween or teen to develop their emotional intelligence and will provide relief for families navigating the rapidly changing social environment, both online and in school. Chair Yoga with Nadia
This is a wonderful alternative for those who can’t get on the floor to do a traditional Yoga class or for those who may get fatigued by standing for longer periods of time. In this gentle class you will increase your flexibility, reduce stiffness, de-stress and find more energy as you use a chair to practice modified versions of traditional Yoga postures, as well as learning breathing and meditation techniques.

Aroma Therapy and Skin Care with Angela Buckley
Angela Buckley’s workshop shares methods of making natural skin care products, based on aroma-therapeutic principles. Participants will discover how easy it is to make skin care products at home and also how aromatherapy can promote well-being and reduce stress. The underlying philosophy is one of self-care, not only through using the product, but also through the creative process, which is in itself relaxing and fulfilling.

Mary Morgan Pharmacist from Hickey’s pharmacy in Balbriggan primary health centre will give a talk on smoking.

Living with Arthritis with Peter Boyd
Peter Boyd from Arthritis Ireland will be giving a talk on the subject of Arthritis. He will cover areas such as tips on managing your own condition and the support provided to sufferers by Arthritis Ireland.

Cool Foods Workshop with Deirdre Doyle
This workshop will be run by Cool Food School and is suitable for children between 3 to 7 years of age. Children and their families will receive an introduction to nutrition and there will be a large selection of fruits and vegetables on display allowing children to get to look at them, feel them and smell them.
