The Poem as Puzzle and Quest: A Talk and Workshop for Writers, Students and the Merely Curious.
From antiquity, poems have been a kind of encoding. Language itself is a code and the poem seeks to enrich the coding with layers of meaning. How does the reader access the hidden depths? Unravelling the code is an entertaining exercise.
This workshop offers one route through the maze, with a reading of a particularly rich poem, and a look at some old riddle poems. If you've found a poem that puzzles you, bring it along. Participants will also be invited to try a little “encryption” themselves.
Máighréad Medbh is a poet and performer. She has published seven poetry books, one mixed-genre work and three e-novels. She was 2016 winner of the Listowel Writers’ Week Single Poem competition.
