As part of Balbriggan Summerfest 2015 Balbriggan Library organised The Great Balbriggan Bake Off. Bakers had a choice of five categories to enter: Cakes, Small Bakes, Bread, Pies/Tarts or Junior Baker for those aged 12 and under. The library’s cookery section was very busy in the run up to the Bake Off as contestants searched for inspiration to create their own Showstopper – Mary Berry would have been proud!!

The Bake Off was a great success with 67 entries on the night and as you can see from the photos, we had some spectacular cakes. Representative from Balbriggan ICA kindly agreed to act as judges for the evening and a winner was chosen from each category and awarded a certificate and afternoon tea voucher. While the ICA tasted and judged all the entries, guests enjoyed a traditional music session as well as face painting for children. 12 year old Emily who made a multi-flavoured Rainbow Cake was named overall “Balbriggan Baker of the Year 2015”.

Of course we saved the best part of the Bake Off to the end – when everyone got a chance to taste all of the bakes!
