Contractor appointed to construct playgrounds in Balbriggan, Lusk and Skerries

Lusk Plan 1

Fingal County Council is pleased to announce the appointment of a contractor to construct four playgrounds following the conclusion of a competitive tender process. The playgrounds will be located at Quay Street and Bandstand Park Balbriggan, Lusk Recreational Hub and Skerries Town Park.

The contract has been awarded to Creative Play Solutions, who are specialists in the construction of natural playgrounds and have recently completed the construction of knights Playground in Balrothery. They have won the ALCI Award for their design and installation of playgrounds in Willie Pearse Park and Griffeen Valley Park, both based in Dublin.

A key element of the project brief was that the design of the playgrounds reflected and complimented the character of each site while also providing natural paly opportunities for children. The importance of Community has been to forefront in providing a playground design that will meet the local needs.

The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Eoghan O’Brien, said: “Myself and my fellow councillors are always pleased when plans that we have supported for new community facilities move to the construction phase. These new playgrounds will add greatly to the existing community facilities in Balbriggan, Lusk and Skerries and will provide a lot of enjoyment to many families when they are completed.”

I welcome the appointment of a contractor to construct these four playgrounds. Fingal has the youngest population in the country and the Council is committed to meeting the recreational needs of this young population. These beautifully designed playgrounds will provide an important amenity for the children of these three towns.

Kevin Halpenny, Senior Parks Superintendent for Fingal County Council, stated: “These playgrounds have been planned and designed following very extensive consultation with the local communities and their involvement has been of great benefit to the process.”

Fingal County Council’s Interim Chief Executive, AnnMarie Farrelly, said: “I welcome the appointment of a contractor to construct these four playgrounds. Fingal has the youngest population in the country and the Council is committed to meeting the recreational needs of this young population. These beautifully designed playgrounds will provide an important amenity for the children of these three towns.”

The appointment of a contractor has been warmly welcomed by Balbriggan Playground Committee. A spokesperson stated: “We are very pleased with the winning tender and are very excited to see the finished products.”

A spokesperson on behalf of Lusk2020 said “We are delighted to hear of the awarding of the contract for the development of a play-trail within the Lusk Recreational Hub, an innovative design which we look forward to being implemented in the near future for the benefit of the Lusk community”.

Skerries Community Association stated: “The chosen design showed great use of the sloped site and appropriate tie-in to the location.  The playground structures also encourage imaginative play.”

Construction will cost €400,000 and will commence late this year with the first playground due to open early in 2020 and all four playgrounds in operation by the end of next year.
