Over 500 primary school students to take part in the Fingal Fit Kids Programme
Over 500 primary school students across 5 primary schools in Dublin 15 will take part in Fingal Fit Kids, an innovative five-week programme giving 5th & 6th class students the opportunities and confidence to improve their fitness levels through peer to peer education.
Over 500 primary school students across 5 primary schools in Dublin 15 will take part in Fingal Fit Kids, an innovative five-week programme giving 5th & 6th class students the opportunities and confidence to improve their fitness levels through peer to peer education.
The programme will be delivered by 24 transition year students participating in the Fingal County Council / FAI TY fitness & football programme.
The TY students have worked on football related activities with Fingal County Council Sports Officers and a strength and conditioning coach.
They are also being tutored by Litton Lane Fitness Training to obtain the ITEC fitness instructor qualification.
Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Eoghan O’Brien, said: “The Fingal Fit Kids programme is a fantastic initiative by Fingal County Council’s Sports Office in conjunction with the FAI.
“I’m impressed by the initiative and confidence of the transition year students who’ll be delivering the Fingal Fit Kids programme, and I wish everyone involved a fun, enriching and educational experience.”
Chief Executive of Fingal County Council AnnMarie Farrelly said: “Engagement with fitness and sport from a young age is vital , so it’s great to see Fingal County Council’s Sports Office work with our TY students and the FAI to bring Fingal Fit Kids to Dublin 15.
“Peer to peer education is an innovative way to teach and to learn, and it can strengthen relationships and bonds across our communities.

Fingal County Council Director of Services for Housing and Community Margaret Geraghty said: “Projects such as this programme demonstrate Fingal’s ongoing commitment to working within the community to provide important health and wellbeing initiatives in a fun way.”
