Fingal Libraries launches service specifically aimed at cocooners
The library doors may be shut at the moment, but the service is very much open as part of the Fingal Community Call response.
Fingal Libraries e-Services have thrived and borrowing of e-Books, e-Magazines and eLearning services has increased dramatically.
But we know that not everyone has access to or wants to use online services, so in response Fingal Libraries is now offering a delivery service specifically aimed at people who are cocooning in Fingal.
So if you are cocooning and have read everything on your bookshelf or are looking for some new reading material to whittle away the hours, Fingal libraries is happy to help. If you or someone you know is cocooning and would like a fresh supply of library books, talking books or DVDs contact us now at 1800 459 059 or 01 8905000 or

The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Eoghan O’ Brien, said: “It’s great that our Library staff will be able to deliver this service to our community members, especially those cocooning and most vulnerable. Reading is a great way to escape for a few hours and during the current crisis we need that more than ever so for our Library staff to be able to provide this service to our community is fantastic. I would encourage everyone in Fingal to become a member of their local library today.”
The service will be delivered by library staff and drivers who will pack a box of books and deliver it straight to the door. We have a wide variety of items in stock including books, talking books, large print and a limited selection of DVDs. There is no guarantee of the title of your choice, but we can select books by your favourite author/genre or subject matter. Up to 15 items can be delivered at a time for a 3-week loan period and if necessary, we can amend the amount and loan period. Don’t worry if you’re not a member of Fingal libraries, you can join with no fuss.
County Librarian, Betty Boardman, says: “Days can be long for people who are cocooning and a good book or DVD can help break the monotony. Library staff in Fingal are experts in selecting books and DVDs and will do their utmost to make sure that people are well stocked up with both over the coming weeks and months.”
Margaret Geraghty, Director of Housing and Community at Fingal County Council said: “Fingal Library staff have continued to provide great services where possible over the past few weeks to assist our community as we continue to observe public health guidance. As part of that, I am delighted that we are now able to restart our libraries housebound delivery service. I want to assure our citizens that our library team will continue to explore ideas and initiatives to support our citizens to enjoy our libraries and stay safe.”
Health and safety measures are in place. All items will be quarantined for 72 hours before delivery and social distancing measures will be taken by all our drivers who are Garda vetted.
