Mayor's statement on death of Det Garda Colm Horkan

“On behalf of Fingal County Council, and the people of Fingal, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of Detective Garda Colm Horkan who was killed in the line of duty in Castlerea, Co Roscommon, late last night.

“Detective Garda Horkan’s previous posting had been in Fingal where he served the community of Dublin 15 and our thoughts are with his former colleagues in Blanchardstown Garda Station on this very sad day for all members of An Garda Síochána.

“He is the 89th Garda to die in the line of duty since the force was founded almost 100 years ago and his tragic death shows, once again, the debt we owe to the Gardaí who are prepared to put their lives on the line in order to protect the citizens of our country.

“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."
