Prohibition notice at Balbriggan extended
Resamples taken on 7 September have been published
The prohibition notice at Front Strand Beach Balbriggan has been extended until 14th September.
Heavy rainfall (yellow rain warning) on the 4th September resulted in an overflow at Quay St. pumping station in Balbriggan. Subsequently a sample from Monday 5th September met the standard for poor water quality. Further sample results from Wednesday 7th September saw an improvement in water quality with results within the mandatory standard for bathing waters, however not to the level required to remove the current notice.
Heavy rain is forecast (yellow weather warning) for Sunday 11th September and may result in a deterioration of water quality. The EPA advice to bathers is not to swim for 48 hours after heavy rainfall.
A resample will be taken on Monday 12th September with results expected 14th September, when a decision to remove the prohibition notice can be made and replaced with the all season advisory notice.
