Visual Artist Marie Hanlon was recently elected as a member of Aosdana.
Fingal Arts are delighted to announce that Sutton based visual artist Marie Hanlon was recently elected as a member of Aosdana, the state sponsored body of creative artists in Ireland. Membership of Aosdána, is by peer nomination and election, and is limited to 250 living artists who have produced a distinguished body of work.
Marie was born in Kilkenny and studied History of European Painting and English at University College Dublin and has worked as a professional artist since 1990. Known mainly as an abstract artist of finely made small and medium sized works, Marie’s output in recent years encompasses a broader range of media. Through her collaboration with contemporary composers she has developed new work, especially in video and installation.
Hanlon is represented by Rubicon Projects | Rubicon Gallery and has exhibited as a solo artist, in group shows and in screenings both nationally & internationally. Events for 2014 include: solo exhibitions at Solstice Arts Centre, Navan and Draiocht, Centre for the Arts, Blanchardstown / residency in Krems, Austria /selection for Cinesonika 4 International Film Festival, Vancouver, Canada / group exhibition at The Octagonal Room, City Assembly House, Dublin with Rubicon Gallery / joint commission with Rhona Clarke from Concorde for Up Close with Music, screenings in RHA Gallery and Dublin City Gallery, The Hugh Lane.
