Active Cities Dublin is delighted to announce an upcoming inclusive triathlon taking place on 15 May in West Dublin. This event welcomes people with all disabilities to take part in a Triathlon event at a world-class sporting facility.

The inclusive triathlon is a first for Fingal and is a collaborative effort supported by Swim Ireland, Triathlon Ireland, Active Disability Ireland and Sport Ireland as well as Fingal County Council. With support from so many quarters, the organisers say they expect to see a large number of entries and huge support from the community on the day of the competition.

Interested parties can register online at www.fingal.ie/active-cities/triathlon. Entrants can choose to compete as an individual in the 3 events; bike, swim and run or can choose to enter a team of three people. Teams can be made up of a combination of the disabled entrant and two friends or family members, each competing in their preferred event and playing to their strengths to compete as one team.

Mayor of Fingal, Councillor Adrian Henchy, says ‘Sport is one of the great unifiers. It allows everyone who takes part to share in the excitement, the pain and the glory. The inclusive triathlon will be a fantastic opportunity for people to come together, with and without the experience of disability, to compete on a level. We are looking forward to a great event’.

Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly says ‘Active Cities Dublin has put together a fantastic event that will support athletes with disabilities to try out a triathlon. It will take part in our world-class facilities at the National Aquatic Centre and Sport Ireland Campus in Dublin 15, where the very best in facilities are available to all of the community.’

David Storey, Director of Environment, Climate Action, Active Travel and Sport says the event offers a chance for people with disabilities to enjoy a full competitive triathlon where disabilities of all kinds will be acknowledged and accommodated. ‘Equal access to participation requires supports to be put in place ahead of time. When you’re signing up for the inclusive triathlon you’ll notice we’re thinking ahead to ensure everyone involved has the accommodations they need in place on the day. We are looking forward to welcoming a large group of competitors, so don’t delay! Get your application in as soon as possible.’

All event details, including a break down of event times and locations for each level, are available at www.fingal.ie/active-cities/triathlon, where you will also find the application form.
