Velvet Strand beach has several pedestrian access points.
Dublin Bus operates the 32B and 42 from Dublin City Centre, which both service a bus stop at the beach.
If you are using Irish Rail, it's about a 50 minute walk from Portmarnock train station to the beach.

Lifeguards are on duty from 11 am to 7 pm on Saturdays and Sundays in June and every day from July to August.
The sand dunes on Velvet Strand North Beach are an important natural feature. They are sensitive and we want to preserve them, so some of the dunes are fenced off at times. To avoid harming them, please don’t walk or play on the dunes and the surrounding grass.
Portmarnock Beach is an identified beach under the Bathing Water Quality Regulations 2008 (SI No. 79 of 2008). The water quality is monitored regularly from mid-June to mid-September every year. Water quality results are available on the beach noticeboard and on the EPA website www.beaches.ie.
