One: Beaches

Fingal has 88 km of coastline stretching from Sutton to Balbriggan. Add to that three protected estuaries, salt marsh habitats and 13 major beaches, providing families with ample choice for a day spent walking, playing and exploring.

Looking for a long beach walk then visit Portmarnock’s Velvet strand. Stretching to five kilometres, visitors are shielded by the high sandy dunes on one side and the sea with views of Lambay Island and Howth Head on the other.

Continue around the coast from Portmarnock, families can spend a few hours exploring High and Low Rock near Malahide, the rocky outcrops are suitable for fishing and swimming (depending on tide) and the rocks themselves are home to fossils from many centuries ago. Portrane, Donabate, Skerries, Loughshinny and Balbriggan all have magnificent sandy beaches of various lengths for walks, runs or if you are brave enough swims.
