Allotments Management

Parks, Gardens and Open Spaces

A review of the Allotments Policy was carried out in September-October 2022 and 2024. The policy review document and the updated Terms of License for Allotment Lettings are available below.

Applications for 2025 Season:

  • Applications will only be accepted from those who currently reside in the Fingal Administrative Area, from Wednesday 1st January 2025 Friday 31st January 2025. Only one plot will be assigned to each household.
  • We cannot guarantee a plot for all those that apply: preference is given to those who wish to renew their plot and the remaining plots will be allocated by lottery in accordance with the updated 2025 Terms of License for Allotment Lettings. A reserved position on a waiting list will be created as part of the lottery process. If waiting lists are significant and vacancies are minimal, the Council reserves the right to extend the waiting list by a further 12-month period. The council reserves the right to allow those on the previous seasons waiting list to keep their list position on the new waiting list should they not have been offered a plot the previous season and the new applicants will be added to the new waiting list following a lottery process for new applicant. There will be a limit on the waiting list for each site of 100 applicants.
  • Please note that plots are offered as is: there can be a lot of work involved with an allotment, especially at the beginning.

Fingal County Council manages approximately 900 allotments at four different sites throughout the County.  Three of our sites are located in the North County at Turvey in Donabate, Skerries and Balbriggan. The fourth site is located at Powerstown, close to Mulhuddart in the Dublin 15 area.

There are three different plot sizes available to rent: 50sqm, 100sqm and 200sqm (the 200sqm plots are only available at our Balbriggan and Turvey sites).  This means that there is an allotment plot to suit all levels of interest, experience and time commitment.

We have very active Allotment Committees operating at our allotment sites.  These committees represent and promote the interests of the plot holders.  All of our plot holders are required to become members of their Allotment Association.  The annual cost of joining is €10.  This single €10 fee applies regardless of the number of plots rented by an individual.  Fingal County Council works very closely with the Allotment Committees in dealing with any issues that may arise.

Throughout 2025 we again plan to work very closely with the Allotment Committees to deliver improvements to all sites which will mean increased benefits and enjoyment experienced by all plot holders. We continue to provide portaloos and skips for use by members.
