Fingal Walk & Talk Groups

Mens walk and talk poster

Background

In 2022, the Active Travel Section of Fingal County Council, in partnership with Get Ireland Walking and Age Friendly began setting up Men's Walk & Talk Groups around the County. The groups are led by local volunteers who are avid walkers and the goal is to create a group that combines physical activity with open conversation.

We’re proud to support a variety of walking groups throughout the County so whatever type of walking group you’re interested in setting up, get in touch and we’ll do what we can to support you.

Benefits

The groups have been a brilliant asset to their community as they help to tackle social isolation, improve mental health, promote physical activity and build a sense of community.

Structure

Typically the groups meet one night per week at a set time and starting point and cover somewhere between 3km - 7km depending on the make up of the group, local environment and availability of the volunteer leaders. Routes can vary from week to week and increase in distance as the group become fitter and more accustomed to the walks.

Support

The Active Travel Walking & Cycling Officers will help set the group up, provide support in selecting a route, provide admin support and register the group with Get Ireland Walking which insures the group for activities and helps promote the group. We can also provide High Viz vests and other items where needed.
