Rush Active Travel Projects

In February 2024 Fingal County Council launched two public consultations regarding road safety and active travel measures in Rush. It is proposed that changes be made in the Summer months in preparation for the September return to school.

A School Street is proposed for Rush National School and a series of junction upgrades adjacent to the school are proposed for the nearby 5-arm junction at Millbank Road, Chapel Road and Whitestown Road. Together these upgrades will reduce traffic speeds in the area and provide children walking or wheeling to school with a much safer environment, at and on the approach to the school gate.

What is a School Street?

A School Street is a street where motor traffic is restricted during specific timed closures. Traffic is redirected away from the front of schools using specific timed closures to provide the safest possible environment for students when entering and leaving school. Traffic-free School Streets have multiple and far-reaching benefits for all members of the community and the environment, but especially for young people.
