All identified bathing waters sampled on 26th August 2024 have met the standard for excellent, Brook Beach Portrane was sufficient but excellent after retest 28th. In addition, Malahide beach has met the standard for good.
Beaches on the Fingal coastline have been named as Blue Flag and Green Coast Award recipients today, as An Taisce celebrated the quality and diversity of Ireland’s coastline.

Fingal County Council would like to hear from people who swim at beaches, lakes and rivers to tell them if they think they should maintain existing bathing waters designations or give a new official bathing area designation to areas that are commonly used for swimming, but are not identified at the moment.

Please be advised that Blue Flag Beaches in Fingal - Donabate, Rush South and Portmarnock - have a prohibition on dogs, with the exception of assistance dogs, in the blue flag area from 01st June -15th September between the hours of 11am to 7pm.
Dog owners are being encouraged to be responsible by bagging and binning their pets poo when using the county’s many beaches. Failure to do so could see access stopped.
There have been sightings of Lions Mane jellyfish at some of our beaches. These jellyfish may also be spotted at our other beaches over the coming weeks.
This is brown foam which is seen on our beaches from time to time. It is called surf foam or surf scum. It can be easily mistaken for pollution, but it isn’t. It is a collection of millions of microscopic algae (bloom) and is a natural phenomenon. They need sunlight to grow and attach to the bubbles in the surf causing foaming.
