Climate Action Plan: What's Next?

Four key targets have been identified, namely:

  1. Improve the council’s energy efficiency by 50% by 2030.
  2. Reduce the council’s greenhouse gas emissions by 51% by 2030.
  3. Make Dublin a climate resilient region by reducing the impacts of future climate change related events.
  4. To actively engage and inform our citizens on climate change.

A sample of the actions across Fingal County Councils five main action areas include:

Energy and Buildings

Energy and Buildings

  • Annual reporting and monitoring to SEAI.
  • Publish Fingal County Councils Energy Review annually.
  • Display Energy Certificates for Public buildings.
  • Continue to make energy efficiency retrofits to social housing under the DHLGH support Energy Retrofit Programme.
Transport

Transport

  • Continued electrification of Councils vehicle fleet.
  • Increase walkways and protected cycles lanes in the county annually.
  • Implement the DLA EVCP strategy through delivery of sufficient EVCP’s.
  • Implement the Safe Routes to School and Street Streets Programme.
Flood Resilience

  • Progress OPW Flood Protection Schemes.
  • Develop a coastal monitoring programme.
  • Ensure the inclusion of water conservation and SuDS measures in all developments.
Nature Based Solutions

Nature Based Solutions

  • Increase Pollinator areas in public parks and open spaces.
  • Continue supporting the use of public allotments and community gardens as a way communities can grow their own food and lower food miles and waste.
  • Develop climate change initiatives in partnership with local farmers and other stakeholders.
Circular Economy and Resource Management

  • Develop a Green Public Procurement Strategy.
  • Support and promote the National Waste Management Plan for a Circular Economy 2023-2030.
  • Identify used items that could be collected at the Civic Amenity Centres to be re-purposed, re-imagined or repaired for reuse.
  • Expand the bring bank network throughout Fingal.
Community Engagement

Community Engagement

  • Develop an annual calendar of climate action and environmental awareness days of significance.
  • Promote and administer the Community Climate Action Fund.
  • Provide climate awareness training for all staff and elected members.
  • Develop a library of material in relation to climate action.
