Crafting with Children

These days crafting has become a big part of my day, it occupies little hands and keeps us busy for a while! It's also fun to be creative, especially with items you can find around the house. So here we have tried to do a few different crafts using toilet roll, coloured paper, paint and crepe paper. The items made can be made by various ages, I find it hard to get things that both my 2-year-old and 5-year-old can do but this particular one can be adapted to suit any age.

These toilet paper roll peacocks & frogs are so cute and adorable. 

How to make the peacock

Materials:

·         toilet paper roll

·         glue,

·         scissors 

·         something to colour

·         a piece of paper

Instructions

Cut blue paper, it needs to be the same width as the paper roll and long enough so that you will be able to wrap it around the toilet paper roll.

You could also skip this part and just paint the toilet roll. 

Spread glue on the blue paper.

Wrap it around the toilet paper roll. Allow the glue to set.

Cut beak out of yellow paper. Glue it on the paper roll. Also stick on two eyes (or draw them)

Cut lots of strips of paper. 

Make loops by gluing the two ends of paper together.

Apply a generous amount of glue on the back of the toilet paper roll.

Stick one one loop. And another…

Until you have a nice looking peacock tail.

Cut two feet, Stick them on the bottom (on the inside) of the paper roll.

You have just made your toilet paper roll peacock craft.

How to make frog from a toilet roll

Materials:

·         toilet roll

·         glue,

·         scissors,

·         something to colour

·         a piece of paper

Instructions

Cut green paper, it needs to be the same width as the paper roll and long enough so that you will be able to wrap it around the toilet paper roll.

You can also use green paint to colour the paper roll.

Spread glue on the blue paper, and wrap it around toilet roll.

Glue on the head, arms, legs and spots (warts?).

You have just made your toilet paper roll frog craft.

Make a Cloud with toilet roll

There's an endless combination of crafts that involve toilet rolls, and here is one more really simple one. To make a cloud toilet roll simply paint the roll, make a cloud with a face, cut pieces of crepe paper and attach to the end of the roll. This can be made more complex for older children by adding buttons, glitter or other embellishments.
