Traditional skills of Ireland at Flavours of Fingal

Welcome to the Traditional Skills of Ireland Courtyard at Flavours of Fingal!

For the first time the rich heritage and craftsmanship of Ireland will be accessible through hands-on demonstrations and exhibits. These skills, such as stonemasonry, joinery, brickmaking and blacksmithing, are needed for the conservation, repair and maintenance of historic buildings and structures in Ireland. Likewise our craft skills from tapestry weaving to lacemaking have shaped our culture. Meet the craftspeople and practitioners who are passionate about their skills and who will encourage you to have a go!

Raising awareness of the importance of our traditional skills is an aim of the Heritage Council who are generously supporting this event and of the members of National Inventory of Architectural Heritage who will be on hand to answer questions about policy and grants. Don’t forget to visit the Fingal Heritage & Conservation tent where Fingal’s Architectural Conservation Officer, Helena Bergin will be available to advise you about our local buildings and Heritage Officer Christine Baker will highlight the ongoing heritage projects in Fingal.  Join us in celebrating our traditional skills heritage and the artisans who keep these traditions alive.

Supported by The Heritage Council the Traditional Skills Courtyard is an action of the Fingal Heritage Plan 2024-2030.
