Connecting Castleknock
The main objective of the project is to create a walking and cycling route that links Castleknock residents to local amenities such as shops, schools, sports facilities and the Royal Canal Greenway at the 12th Lock. This new walking and cycling route will provide the large, diverse population of the Castleknock area with access to affordable, healthy and convenient active travel for local journeys.
Linking to the Greater Dublin Area Cycle Network
The National Transport Authority (NTA) has identified this route as part of the Greater Dublin Area Cycle Network. The Auburn Avenue to 12th Lock Walking and Cycling Route has the potential to remove the need for a car to complete local journeys for many people.
Connecting to the wider transport network
The new route will connect to public transport and the wider national road network. By making it safer and easier to choose active travel for local journeys or as part of a wider journey, Fingal County Council aims to increase the number of people making the switch to walking and wheeling.
