It’s a Dream Come True for 9 Year Old Garristown Author Brea Mullarkey
Brea Mullarkey, from Garristown, is just 9 years old and she has written a book called, “Lost and Found: A bedtime story for my brothers.”
She is always drawing and writing notes to her friends but her wish was to write a book and with the help of Make-A-Wish Ireland her dream has come true.

Brea Mullarkey, from Garristown, is just 9 years old and she has written a book called “Lost and Found: A bedtime story for my brothers.” She is always drawing and writing notes to her friends but her wish was to write a book and with the help of Make-A-Wish Ireland her dream has come true.
When Brea was 3 years old she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. During the following years she underwent gruelling sessions of chemotherapy in Crumlin Children’s Hospital.
Despite her illness and tiredness and her hectic life attending hospital, Brea always remained cheerful and friendly and enthusiastic about life. On her regular visits to Garristown Library she would arrive with a big smile and her big bright eyes, always ready for a chat and to be part of whatever clubs or arts and craft sessions were taking place and this is still true of Brea when she visits us in the library.
Sadly Brea relapsed one year after finishing the chemotherapy treatment and she had to receive a bone marrow transplant. Some tough weeks of isolation followed the operation and Brea couldn’t have any visitors during this time.
Thankfully the operation was a success and now she is “sound as a bell!” That’s a quote from none other than broadcaster, Pat Kenny, who interviewed a busy Brea on his Newstalk radio show on the same day she was due to launch her book.
Only days before that she spoke to Ryan Tubridy about her book on his morning radio show on Radio 1.

With the kindness and help from Make-A-Wish Ireland, Lost and Found was published and was launched on 14th May in Easons book shop on O’Connell Street where a large and excited crowd gathered as Brea signed copies of her book for everybody.
Lost and Found is a book about three siblings who go on an adventure into a beach cave on Achill Island…even though their mam and dad have warned them not to go into the beach caves! It’s an exciting adventure with a good twist in the tale. The book costs €5 and the proceeds go to Make-A-Wish Ireland and Crumlin Children’s Hospital. It will soon be available to buy or borrow from Garristown Library.
