Kinsealy Walking & Cycling Scheme
This project aims to develop high quality walking and cycling facilities from Kinsealy to Portmarnock by constructing a new section greenway and significantly upgrading Station Road to provide safer walking and cycling facilities.
Emerging preferred route

The preferred option for the route between Kinsealy and Portmarnock proposes to complete the active travel network in line with the Kinsealy Local Area Plan (LAP). It proposes to make the existing single-way cycle track along Chapel Road a shared space for cyclist and pedestrians (retain existing trees and on-street parking) although some land acquisition is proposed to provide a safe and continuous cycle and pedestrian facilities along the road.
Existing cycle tracks within Newpark Estate would be widened to 3 metres and a new greenway is proposed to connect this estate to Station Road, land acquisition from agricultural land would be required to construct this section of greenway. The greenway would be 4 metres wide shared surface with planting and verge space on either side, the greenway will have public lighting so that it can be safely used at night.
Upcoming Greenway

The junction of Station Road/R124 would be improved to provide increased road safety, visibility and a safe crossing for pedestrians and cyclists. Station Road would be widened to provide traffic lanes of an adequate width, footpaths on both sides and a two- way cycle track on the northern side. This would require land acquisition from both sides of the road. A new active travel bridge over the railway line is proposed which will allow cyclists to continue along Station Road until they reach the DART station and connect to the existing cycle tracks there.

Why is the scheme needed?
The scheme intends to provide a safe environment that can encourage people to use active travel when making local trips. This route provides direct connection to the Portmarnock train station and facilitates active travel options, which promotes positive health benefits and is a more economical way of transport.
