Autumn Sounds 2016
The classical series AUTUMN SOUNDS is the brainchild of DUO CHAGALL (Gillian Williams, violin and Arun Rao, cello) in partnership with the Fingal County Council's Arts Office. Initially conceived as a three-day festival on the grounds of St Mochta’s in Porterstown in 2010, the series will take place this year in the prestigious Ballroom at Farmleigh, and in The Seamus Ennis Centre, Naul.
Now in its seventh season, AUTUMN SOUNDS has treated music-lovers from Fingal to a wealth of chamber music from France, Russia, Germany, Norway and England, featuring the works of neglected composers and rarely-performed masterpieces alongside ‘popular’ classics, constantly striving to refresh the concept of ‘themed concerts’.
The series will feature works by Benjamin Britten (who died in 1976), Spanish virtuoso Gaspard Cassadó, and a repeat of the magnificent Sonata by Zoltan Kodaly given in Farmleigh last year to great acclaim. Continuing its tradition of promoting lesser-known composers, the ‘Ciaccona on a theme by Schumann’ by the famous cellist and pedagogue Julius Klengel will also receive its Irish premiere, thus threading the music of the German master throughout the series (the theme is from the opening bars of the violin sonata played the previous evening).
