Bike Week Is Back With a Bang!
Bike Week 2024 is happening from Saturday, 11 May to Sunday, 19 May this year. Fingal County Council is delighted to present a packed programme with returning favourites and lots of exciting new events to suit people of all ages and cycling abilities.
Bike Week is a national celebration of cycling. Started by the National Transport Authority (NTA) and delivered by local authorities around Ireland, the week will showcase the best of cycling opportunities in Ireland.
Fingal events include two family fun days with a cycling focus, one to begin the week-long celebration taking place on Saturday, 11 May at Millennium Park in Blanchardstown, and the second to close out the week at Malahide Castle on Sunday, 19 May. These events will feature cycle-powered games, free bike maintenance and repairs, a popup velodrome and family-friendly cycle-in movies on the lawn.
Mayor of Fingal, Councillor Adrian Henchy, says ‘Bike Week is the ideal time to get on your bike and try out cycling. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or a total beginner our active travel team has something for you. Visit www.fingal.ie/bikeweek for details of all the free, inclusive events happening throughout the week and make sure to get involved!’
Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly says ‘Active travel is transforming how Fingal moves and Bike Week is your annual opportunity to try out a new cycling experience. Our team has assembled an array of fun experiences for adventurous kids, nervous novices and weekend warriors and each year we see Bike Week become a bigger and better celebration. We hope to see you there!’
David Storey, Director of Environment, Climate Action, Active Travel and Sport says ‘The 2024 programme is fun and informative and we are looking forward to welcoming people from all over Fingal to try out a trishaw trip, decorate a bike, celebrate at school, learn bike repair, take a community cycle and lots more! You don’t need to be a cyclist to hop on a bike this Bike Week – we want to see everyone getting involved.’
