C-Pen Reader Pen

Fingal County Council Libraries Department is delighted to announce the introduction of a new inclusive technology service which is available from any of the Fingal Library branches. The new service is called the C-Pen Reader Pen which is a reading tool designed to improve and enhance reading and learning. This new service is funded under the 2022 Dormant Accounts Action Plan and is designed to assist Fingal Libraries to reach out to older people, children from disadvantaged communities, people with disabilities and other marginalised groups.

The C-Pen Reader Pen is a portable, pocket-sized tool that scans and reads words and full lines of text aloud, supporting independent reading and literacy. The pen is ideal for people with reading difficulties such as dyslexia or those with vision difficulties.  Adults and children who are learning the English language will also find the reading pen an extremely helpful piece of technology to use. The state-of-the-art tool is easy to use, which reads text out with a natural speaking voice and has a built-in dictionary so you can access the meaning of words as you read.

Fingal Libraries County Librarian, Betty Boardman remarked:

“Fingal Libraries is delighted to offer the C-Pen Reader Pens as part of our inclusive technology range of services.  We would encourage people to explore this new tool which will greatly enhance their learning, reading and understanding.”

Visit your local Fingal Library branch to find out how to borrow a C-Pen Reader pen.  Members of the public can borrow a Reader Pen for a period of three weeks and each Fingal Library branch will also have a Reader Pen available to use in the library.
