Fingal County Council has welcomed the allocation of €1,748,912 under the Community Recognition Fund for 26 projects across Fingal.
There is an allocation of €850,512 for eight projects in Swords while €435,000 has been provided for four projects in Dublin 15. Three projects in the Howth Malahide Local Electoral Area have received a total of €92,000 while €96,600 will be spent on four projects in Skerries, Rush and Lusk. Three projects in Balbriggan will be funded by grants amounting to €44,000 while two projects in Baleskin will receive a total of €30,200 and one in Santry will get €20,000. A full list of the projects and the amount allocated to each can be found below.
The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Howard Mahony, welcomed the announcement by the Government and added: “This is a great way to recognise the contribution being made by communities across Fingal in welcoming and hosting significant numbers of arrivals from Ukraine and other countries. The money that has been allocated through the Community Recognition Fund will allow Fingal County Council to support the development of community infrastructure and facilities that will be used by all members of the community in the future.”
The Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly, said: “We worked with various stakeholders to identify suitable projects and I am delighted that we have been able to secure €1.7m funding for 26 separate projects that will make a significant difference to the community infrastructure in place across the county. Under the terms of the Fund, 60% of the allocation must be spent in 2023 and the remainder in 2024 so we will be moving quickly to get these projects underway.”
The types of projects being funded range from the installation of public Wi-Fi in Community Centres and parks to enhance digital connectivity across the county to the upgrade and enhancement of Holywell Park and Kettles Park in Swords in recognition of the great contribution made by these communities in welcoming arrivals from Ukraine and other countries.
There are also several projects which will see the purchase of sensory equipment and sensory walls for libraries across Fingal and the installation of sensory gardens in the County.
