Fingal County Council pays tribute to retiring Dublin City University President Brian MacCraith
Fingal County Council has paid tribute to Dublin City University President, Professor Brian MacCraith, who has stepped down from the position after 10 years at the helm.
During a remarkable decade of sustained growth and development for the University, driven on all fronts by Professor MacCraith’s inspirational leadership and vision, strong links were formed between DCU and Fingal County Council.
DCU and Fingal County Council collaborated on many projects over President MacCraith’s term as President including a DCU-Fingal Age Friendly Newsletter initiative that saw a collaboration between multi-media students and the Fingal Age-Friendly Council to provide digital training for older people. In 2015, the Council and DCU, along with other partners, hosted the ITLG Silicon Valley Global Tech Summit which is the premier gathering of Irish American Tech Leaders.
In 2018, President MacCraith accepted an invitation from the Council to chair the Balbriggan Leadership Group which is overseeing a major socioeconomic rejuvenation of the town through the Our Balbriggan project.
The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr David Healy, said: “Dublin City University, which is Ireland’s fastest growing university, attracts a lot of students from Fingal so the growth and development that Brian MacCraith has overseen during his tenure as President has had positive benefits for the county. I would like to pay tribute to Professor MacCraith for the excellent job he has done and I wish his successor, Professor Daire Keogh, every success in the role.”
AnnMarie Farrelly, Chief Executive of Fingal County Council said: “On behalf of Fingal County Council I would like to thank Brian for his support for Fingal County Council over the years. He has always fostered a great collaborative relationship between the Council and DCU which is really valued. His leadership of the Our Balbriggan project has given a growing confidence to Ireland’s youngest town and has helped secure vital investment into the area. I wish him every success in this new chapter of his life and great enjoyment.”
