Fingal County Council is proud to announce the official relaunch of the fourth updated edition of its Residents Association Handbook, a comprehensive, practical guide designed to support the formation, growth, and success of residents associations throughout the Fingal region.
Originally developed to empower communities and strengthen local engagement, the revised fourth edition responds to the changing needs of neighbourhoods with updated content, refreshed guidance, and a renewed focus on inclusive community development.
The handbook offers clear, accessible information on establishing and managing a resident's association, with enhanced sections on governance, fundraising, communication, and local government processes. It aims to foster active citizenship and strong partnerships between residents and Fingal County Council.
Key objectives of the handbook include:
- Supporting the formation of residents associations
- Improving governance and communication
- Fostering community engagement
- Promoting neighbourhood improvement
These goals have been successfully met in earlier editions, and the relaunch builds on that success with expanded resources tailored to today’s community challenges.
“This updated edition of the Residents Association Handbook reflects Fingal County Council’s commitment to supporting vibrant, inclusive, and engaged communities,” said Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Brian MacDonagh. “We’ve worked closely with residents to ensure the handbook continues to be a trusted, practical resource that empowers people to take an active role in shaping their neighbourhoods.”
AnnMarie Farrelly, Chief Executive of Fingal County Council added: “Residents associations play a vital role in strengthening the social fabric of our communities. The revised handbook is an essential tool that will help existing and emerging associations operate effectively, stay connected, and collaborate with the Council to drive positive local change.”
Now in its fourth edition, the handbook has become a model of best practice, with several other local authorities adopting it for their own community development efforts. Its adaptability and practical, step-by-step approach have made it an indispensable guide for residents and community leaders alike.
Printed copies will be made available to local groups, while a digital version can be accessed online.
