Fingal County Council, Tyrone Guthrie Centre and Age & Opportunity Residency Award 2024

Fingal Arts Office, in association with the Tyrone Guthrie Centre and Age & Opportunity, is pleased to announce two, one month-long, residencies at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre. These residences aim to celebrate and support older artists at all stages of their careers working in literature and visual arts.

These residencies will offer a professional visual artist and a professional writer the opportunity to research or develop new work and if desired, to present work during Bealtaine 2025. The award is open to writers and visual artists working in all disciplines, aged 50+, who were born, studied, or currently reside in the Fingal administrative area. Fingal Arts Office, the Tyrone Guthrie Centre and the Age & Opportunity welcome and encourage applications from artists from diverse cultural or minority backgrounds.

The residency aims to address the goals of Fingal Arts Office, through its Arts Plan 2019 – 2025, of: connecting people and ideas; enabling excellence and fostering experimentation and risk taking. These residencies similarly support Age & Opportunity’s aim of celebrating creative ageing, and representation in the arts of and by older people. The initiative also supports the aim of all three organisations, to foster the professional development of artists in their ongoing practice.

The one-month long residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, located in the beautiful, tranquil setting of County Monaghan will provide an ideal environment for the successful candidates to focus on research or the development of new work. Applicants will receive two separate 2-week long residencies (one-month total per artist) between July and December 2024 on dates agreed with the successful candidates.

The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Adrian Henchy commented that “this annual initiative offers older Fingal artists a unique opportunity to expand their creativity in the supportive environment of the Tyrone Guthrie Centre. I look forward seeing the continued impact of this award on Fingal and its citizens.”

The residency will take place from July – December 2024 on dates to be agreed with the successful candidates. The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday, 14th June at 5pm.
