Fingal County Council wins major local authority LAMA award for high standard of delivery
Fingal County Council won the prestigious Grand Prix awarded to the Overall Winner at the Local Authority Members Association’s All-Ireland Community and Council Awards on Saturday evening at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre.
Fingal County Council won the prestigious Grand Prix awarded to the Overall Winner at the Local Authority Members Association’s All-Ireland Community and Council Awards on Saturday evening at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre.
The Award which was sponsored by IPB Insurance, was presented to the Council by LAMA in recognition of the Council’s extremely high standards in the provision of public service and facilities which will play an important part in making Ireland a better place for everyone.
The Council also won four category awards and was shortlisted in a further seven categories. A total of 273 entries across 22 categories were received from the 31 local authorities around Ireland.
Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Adrian Henchy, said: “It is a source of great pride to myself and all my fellow councillors to see Fingal County Council recognised for its high quality of delivery and innovation. To be shortlisted in 11 categories, to win four of those categories, and then win the Grand Prix Award as the overall winner of this year’s competition is a fantastic achievement and a tremendous recognition of the excellent work being done every day by the staff of Fingal County Council.”
The Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly, said: “Our 1,600 staff consists of highly professional people who are committed to public service and making Fingal a great place to live, work, visit and do business in. Our success at this year’s LAMA Awards is a fitting acknowledgement of the excellent work being done across all departments.”
The Church Fields Master Plan won in the Best Housing Regeneration and Urban Planning category while the Seachtain na Gaeilge Bilingual Walk, which took place in Ardgillan Demesne, was named as the Best Irish Language Initiative.
Fingal also won the Local Authority Energy Decarbonation Award for the work being done by its Energy Management Team while the creation of two unique TV series, “Tradfest, the Fingal Sessions” and “Ireland in Music” earned Fingal the Best Tourism Initiative for Fingal Cultural and Tourism TV.
The Council also received Certificates of Merit after being shortlisted in seven other categories including the Council being one of five local authorities shortlisted for the Council of the Year Award. The other shortlisted projects were: Sustainable Swords for Best Housing Regeneration and Urban Planning Category; the Vintage Picnic: Arts, Creativity and Music Festival which was held in Swords Castle for Best Irish Festival; Thrive Balbriggan in the category for the Best Mental Health Initiative; the BASE Enterprise Centre in Swords as the Best Enterprise and Start-Up Hub; the VR for Fingal Libraries project in the Best CSR Project in the Community and The Inside Fingal podcast was shortlisted for the Best Communications Initiative/Innovation Award.
The LAMA Awards are the benchmark for excellence and annually celebrate the collaborations between communities and councils.
