Fingal Sports Office in conjunction with Leinster Rugby hosted the first ever Fingal girls cup finals in Morton Stadium. With over 200 people in the stands cheering on, along with the Mayor of Fingal Cllr Brian McDonagh getting a sideline view, we were treated to two superbly contested games.
Girl’s rugby in Fingal has grown exponentially in the last few years, culminating in last Fridays showpiece, eight schools looked to make the showpiece Final in Morton stadium with Loreto Balbriggan, Ardgillan Community College and St Mary’s Baldoyle the lucky finalists.

Fingal Sport Office Rugby Development Officer Stephen Costelloe pointed out that “this project has been a few years in the making but is now firmly set in the school's calendar for the future. I would like to thank the staff in DCU for the use of their facilities, all the schools and their supporters, Fingal County Council and the Fingal Leinster rugby coaches for their support.
Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Brian McDonagh, was on hand to meet the enthusiastic participants on the day, highlighting the significance of the event. Speaking about the initiative, the Mayor emphasized the importance of “creating opportunities for young women to engage in sports which fosters both physical and mental well-being.”
It is envisaged that the event will expand to more schools and participants from non-rugby backgrounds next year and it will give more young girls another outlet to engage in club and community activities.
