Cruinniú na nÓg 2022 takes place this June 11th and to celebrate the importance of art in early childhood Fingal County Council, Draíocht and Creative Ireland are working with experienced art educators Anne Bradley and Anne Cradden to present Make Space - a visually rich, sensory play space for children and families.

Make Space is designed by Anne Bradley to enable the exploration of a variety of materials - wood, stone, sand, mirrors, modelling clay, fabric - and processes - weaving, plaiting, pouring, mark-making, pattern-making, arranging, observing, rearranging. It provides a contemplative, reflective place encouraging children and their adults to explore a variety of natural materials considering their physical qualities: weight, texture, colour, sound. Participants are invited to consider how these everyday materials make up the natural and built environment around us. They are encouraged to manipulate and explore the characteristics of the materials through pouring, weaving, tracing, mark making, arranging.

Artist and educator Anne Cradden will be present to guide and encourage children in their exploration of the materials.

The space also provides a place for relaxing, open-ended, shared play and the opportunity for quiet, reflective conversation.

Anne Bradley is an educator with a background in art practice. Working as a primary teacher in the area of additional needs, she is interested in exploring and researching innovative and creative pedagogical approaches.

Anne Cradden is an experienced early years practitioner and has spent the last 6 years as artist in residence at Tyrrelstown ETNS as part of Fingal County Council’s innovative Room 13 Inquiry where she and the children collaborated in a shared studio practice.

Make Space was initially designed by Anne Bradley in 2019 as a response room for Elemental - a sculptural exhibition for children by artists Caoimhe Kilfeather and Karl Burke curated by Cleo Fagan of Superprojects, exhibited at Uilinn in Skibbereen Co. Cork, and at VISUAL, Carlow. It is now brought to you through Fingal Arts Office and Draíocht on the occasion of Cruinniú na nÓg 2022, with funding from Creative Ireland.
