New Electoral Portal Voter.ie Launched in the Dublin Region

A new web portal enabling over 1 million Dublin residents to check their electoral details in real-time has been rolled out in the Dublin region. Voters can check if they are eligible to vote in an election by entering their full name and address or Eircode on the Voter.ie website. It is an additional service available to voters in Dublin and it does not replace the existing paper process.

 Voter.ie is a joint initiative involving the four Dublin local authorities. It was developed to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the Register of Electors and allow for online registration. 

 In addition to the basic search functionality, the portal will also allow voters who are registered with mygov.id to: 

  • Add themselves to the Register of Electors
  • Change their address or other details, including citizenship or change of name  
  • Remove themselves from the Register

If they wish to register or change their details on Voter.ie they must verify their identity through www.mygovid.ie  MyGovID is an online identity service, developed by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection, that allows you to access online Government services in a safe and secure manner.

A suite of posters have been created by the four Dublin local authorities to support the roll out of the new electoral portal. They will be displayed on Bus Shelter Sites, Big Belly Bins, JCDecaux Digipanels and in local newspapers.

The Minister of State for Local Government and Electoral Reform, John Paul Phelan, T.D., has welcomed the initiative by the four Dublin local authorities stating that

“This initiative by the four Dublin local authorities is a very welcome and valuable project. This will provide an additional service to those who wish to avail of this online service, and will complement the current manual process, which will continue to be available for those who wish to use it. I see this as an important step towards the Government’s plan to improve and modernise the electoral registration process.”

 All voters in Dublin are encouraged to check www.voter.ie to ensure that they are eligible to vote in the upcoming European and Local elections and the Referendum on the Regulation of Divorce that are taking place on Friday, May, 24, 2019.
