Rush Multipurpose Youth Facility set to open after extensive refurbishment
Fingal County Council has been handed the keys to the Rush Multipurpose Youth Facility (RMYF) following a refurbishment to the site on Millbank. This upgraded facility will serve as a vital hub for the community, providing much needed spaces for community groups to engage in a variety of activities, meetings and development programs.
The refurbishment of RMYF has transformed the building into a bright, spacious and welcoming space. With a focus on fostering a positive and inclusive environment, RMYF is committed to enriching the lives of residents and creating a collaborative space where everyone can thrive.
The ground floor includes a large multipurpose room ideal for activities such as dance, physical fitness, and homework clubs. Several smaller rooms are available for music, Pilates, youth work, counselling, and training programs. The facility will also host three active Foróige groups and will offer a comprehensive drama program led by Millbank Theatre for young people.
Accepting the keys, Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Brian McDonagh, said: “This newly refurbished centre will be a great resource for the people of Rush. I look forward to seeing the community benefit from the wide range of programs and activities that will take place here.”
Key features of the refurbished facility include:
- New Extensions: Expansions to the front, side, and rear of the building.
- Accessible Spaces: The ground floor is fully accessible for individuals with disabilities.
- Multipurpose Rooms: Suitable for a variety of activities, from physical exercise to community meetings.
- Drama and Youth Programs: Supporting local youth engagement through various creative and educational activities.
The refurbishment project was primarily funded by Fingal County Council, having invested just over €1m to help develop the facility for the people of Rush. Additional funding was supplied by the LEADER Programme, and the RMYF. Ongoing support and funding are provided by Fingal County Council's Community Development Office.
AnnMarie Farrelly, Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, commented on the reopening: “This will be a great asset for the community. Its refurbishment represents a significant investment in local development and will offer high-quality spaces for various activities. We look forward to working with the local Board of Management to establish the newly refurbished centre as a focal point for the Rush community.”
Once it opens for use, the facility will offer enhanced resources and opportunities for youth and community groups alike. Fingal County Council is proud to support this vital initiative and looks forward to seeing the facility flourish as a cornerstone of community life in Rush.
