Fingal Sports Office and the Tyrrelstown/Mulhuddart Community Sports Hub present the second online masterclass discussion in their Women in Sport Coaching Series.

This masterclass takes place on Thursday 28 January at 7 pm live on Zoom.

Cliodhna O’Connor, All Ireland winner and Coach will again be in conversation with Cliona Foley, renowned freelance sportswriter and presenter of women’s sport podcast “Off the Bench”.

From the Naomh Mearnog club in Fingal, Clíodhna O’Connor was a key member of the ground- breaking 2010 team that won their first Brendan Martin Cup for Dublin.

She has won three All-Star awards, was selected as goalkeeper in the LGFA/TG4 Team of the Decade, and represented Ireland against Australia in the 2006 International Rules Football series.

Since her retirement as a player, she has been very active as a coach.

In 2017 and 2018 she was part of the coaching team with Cuala during their All-Ireland club hurling double, and currently works as a coach with the Dublin Senior Hurling Team.

Cliona Foley’s quality coverage across a variety of sports has seen her recognised among the best in Irish sports writing, having previously worked for over 25 years with the Irish Independent covering 3 Olympic Games, 20 World and European Championships and over 100 All Ireland finals.

She is an advocate of increasing the profile and coverage of Women’s Sport and her brilliant “Off the Bench” podcast is essential listening for all sports fans.

The Women in Sport Coaching Series aims to encourage women to step forward with confidence and get involved in coaching primarily or in sport in general.

Fingal Sports Office’s partners for this event are Tyrrelstown GAA Club, who have a vibrant underage section catering for girls and boys from nursery age across all Gaelic games.

They are always looking for coaches to get involved in various roles within the club.

Mayor of Fingal Cllr David Healy said: “I welcome the second instalment of the Fingal Women in Sport Coaching Series, which has adapted well to the online format.

“The series has a real role to play in fostering and building knowledge, relationship networks and opportunities for women and girls across Fingal to engage with sport.”

Fingal County Council Chief Executive AnnMarie Farrelly said: “The Women in Sport Coaching Series shows Fingal County Council’s commitment to sport.

“It is also an example of how we continue to provide services and help our communities in ways that meet the public health challenges of Covid-19.”

Fingal County Council Director of Services for Housing and Community Margaret Geraghty said: “The Women in Sport Coaching Series is intended to increase women’s participation in coaching and sport in general, and its online presence means that access is possible no matter where you are in Fingal.”

“The initiative supports the national #KeepWell campaign, and is another example of how local authorities and partners are reaching out to our communities in new ways.”
