Success for Fingal County Council as it claims four honours at the LAMA Awards
Fingal County Council enjoyed a successful evening the annual All Ireland Community and Council (LAMA) Awards which took place in Croke Park.
Fingal was nominated for ten initiatives in eight categories and came away with four awards on the night.
The Community Car’ Age-Friendly Sustainable Transport Service in Fingal was a category winner in the Best Community-Based Initiative category.
The conservation and restoration of the Casino building in Malahide won silver in the Best Heritage Project category, while Donabate Portrane Community Centre claimed silver in the Best Business Working with the Community.
Tyrrelstown Park, Mulhuddart, Dublin 15 won bronze in the Best Public Park category.
Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Eoghan O’Brien, who accepted the awards on the night, said: “These awards recognise the hard work that is done in communities by the Council and businesses across the year. They are a credit to everyone and shows how we are a Council that leads the way in looking for new and better ways to deliver for our residents.”
AnnMarie Farrelly, Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, added: “It is a great honour to receive these accolades in recognition of our efforts to improve the quality of services and amenities we deliver to our residents.”
Community Car’ Age-Friendly Sustainable Transport Service in Fingal - Category Winner
The ‘Community Car’ Age-Friendly Sustainable Transport Service was launched by Fingal County Council in partnership with Go Car & Local Link. Local Community travel is a lifeline for many people who do not drive, allowing them to get out and about, access local amenities and stay part of their community.
The Community Car service is the first of its kind to be implemented by a local authority in Ireland and is now operational in the Howth and Skerries areas.
Donabate Portrane Community Centre – Silver
Donabate Portrane Community Centre received a silver award for best business working in the community. The community centre is a thriving social enterprise providing employment to several local people though the provision of a gym, sport and leisure classes, childcare project and runs many projects that target people of all ages. All income generated is re-invested into the operation and future development of the community centre.
The centre caters for over 300,000 people per annum.
The conservation and restoration of the Casino Building Malahide – Silver
The Casino Malahide has been carefully conserved, restored and extended to become a modern visitor attraction that is now the permanent home of the Fry Model Railway collection which is also of great historical importance not only to the people of Malahide but to model train enthusiasts worldwide. The carefully conserved collection is truly a national treasure that will now be displayed permanently for future generations to appreciate and enjoy.
Tyrrelstown Park, Mulhuddart, Dublin 15 – Bronze
Providing amenities to promote health, play and well-being for all park users continue to be the objective within Tyrrelstown park.
The parks recreational facilities include adult exercise equipment (8 items), a playground, two MUGA courts as well as sports playing pitches which facilitate Soccer, GAA and cricket within the park. A network of more than 2.25kms of pathways facilitate walkers, runners, along with dog owners who can take numerous routes around the park.
