Water supply disruptions in Balbriggan on Wednesday

Essential works to safeguard the water supply to homes and businesses in Balbriggan may cause supply disruptions tomorrow, Wednesday, April 8, from 9am to 5pm.

Irish Water and Fingal County Council wish to advise customers in Balbriggan that essential works to safeguard the water supply to homes and businesses may cause supply disruptions tomorrow, Wednesday, April 8, from 9am to 5pm.

A new water main from Jordanstown to Balbriggan will be connected to the network and the community will benefit from a more secure supply. There have been a series of overnight water restrictions in the area to allow reservoirs to fill so that this work can be carried out with the least impact possible. Water supply to the majority of Irish Water customers will be dependent on reservoir storage and therefore Irish Water are asking customers in the area to be mindful of how they use water.

However, it is important to continue to follow the HSE guidance on hand washing.

While handwashing remains a priority, simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact on reducing demand on the supply. Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and shaving can save up to 6 litres of water per minute. Taking a shower instead of a bath or using a watering car rather than a hose when gardening can also make a big difference in water use. Irish Water are also reminding people with responsibility for properties that are currently unoccupied to check for leaks and turn off water where it is not required. There are lots more tips on how to conserve water in your home on the Irish Water website at https://www.water.ie/conservation/

While the works are underway, the following areas may be impacted by low water pressure and in some instances water outages; Dublin St; Drogheda St; Quay St; Seapoint; Church St; High St; Mill St; Georges hill; Railway St; Convent Ln.; Pinewood; Craoibhin Park; Francourt; Hampton cove; Clonard St; Chapel St; Brecon Close; Lambeecher; Harry Reynolds Rd; Barnwall Centre; Cardy Rock and surrounding areas.

It can take a number of hours for normal water supply to be restored to all impacted customers as the network refills.
Irish Water is working at this time, with Fingal County Council, contractors and others to safeguard the health and well-being of staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of drinking water and wastewater services.

Irish Water and Fingal County Council would like to thank customers for their efforts as work continues to ensure reservoirs recover and water supply is secured.
