Wifi4EU details:Fingal brings free public WiFi to Fingal Towns & Villages.

Wifi Launch Swords Castle 2021

From 2018 to 2021, the EU will provide funding of approx. €120 million to local governments to help deliver free public WiFi services for citizens. High-quality WiFi will be provided in both indoor and outdoor public spaces and other community buildings under the WiFi4EU initiative. The funding will be used to purchase and install state-of-the-art WiFi equipment and local governments will fund operating costs, maintenance and customer support services. WiFi4EU aims to give communities better internet access, improving digital literacy and complementing other public services provided in the locations selected.

Fingal County Council were awarded the maximum funding of €60,000 to install or upgrade public or community WiFi services across the county as part of the recent WiFi4EU funding call. The Department of Rural and Community Development will match the fund to support the remaining cost of the WiFi installation. Fingal County Council will support the connectivity costs over the next three years.

WIFI4EU Locations

The initiative is being supported by the Fingal Dublin Chamber and the local business community. The Council would like to commend the local businesses who have facilitated the rollout of public WiFi by allowing the WiFi devices to be installed on their premises. Without this support the WIFI4EU initiative could not be realised.

A total of 47 WiFi access points have been installed at 18 locations across Fingal. There are seven live access points in Swords, with five in Malahide, Howth and Skerries and four in Rush.

Donabate and Blanchardstown Village will have three live access points with two in Lusk, Naul, Blanchardstown Civic Centre and St. Catherine’s Park.  Garristown, Portrane, Portmarnock, Clonsilla, Castleknock, Mudhuddart and Ongar will have one live access point each.

We would like to thank the following businesses and organisations for facilitating the rollout of the public WiFi network.
