Air quality monitoring

Air Quality Management

Air quality monitoring in Ireland is managed by the Environmental Protection Agency under the Ambient Air Monitoring Programme.

There are 3 ambient air monitoring stations in Fingal. These are located in Blanchardstown, Swords and Dublin Airport.

Real-time and historic air quality monitoring data is easily accessible via the air quality website https://airquality.ie/, with specific links to the Fingal air quality monitors provided below:

Air Quality Index for Health

In addition to monitoring, the EPA operates an Air Quality Index for Health (AQIH). This index is a scale which from runs from 1 to 10 and tells you what the air quality currently is like at the station nearest you and whether or not this might affect your health. A reading of one to three inclusive means that the air quality is good, and a reading of 10 means the air quality is very poor.

The latest AQIH for each of the Fingal monitoring stations is available at the links shown above, and further information on the index is available at https://airquality.ie/information/air-quality-index-for-health.

Air Quality Forecast Maps

The EPA have also launched Air Quality Forecast Maps. These maps use the Air Quality Index for Health data to predict the daily air quality for up to 3 days (today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow). This is an important resource for everyone, but especially people who may be sensitive to poor air quality (e.g. those with asthma and heart conditions).

The Air Quality Forecast Maps can be found at https://airquality.ie/.
