Malahide Castle concert-goers urged to use public transport to attend events

Malahide summer concerts

With the summer series of gigs now taking place at Malahide Castle, Fingal County Council, An Garda Síochána and promoters MCD are urging those attending concerts and other events to use public transport wherever possible.

The call to get to Malahide via bus, train, foot or bikes comes as there was an unprecedented amount of interest in car-parking for The Killers concert that took place on Tuesday night. An estimated 4,000 cars turned up to park at the venue causing severe traffic congestion in and around Malahide.

Fingal County Council said: “We experienced a huge amount of interest in car-parking for the event, with online parking sales exceeding all expectations and was more than double to what we’ve had before at other gigs. Whilst we did our best to safely get people in and out of the event, we would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused to those caught up in the congestion that large amount of extra traffic created."

"We strongly urge the public to use public transport options to the venue wherever that is possible. There are excellent transport links that can bring people into the heart of the seaside town and it's just a short walk to Malahide Castle where the concerts are taking place."

Fingal said that it would be working closely with the car park management company to ensure that the same issue with parking and traffic flow would be addressed ahead of the next concert.

With all car parking now sold out for The Killers concert tonight, a return-only bus will be available at the end of the event. Further information on this service is available at https://marathoncoaches.ie/
