Africa Day 2024 to be celebrated across Fingal
This year, the Fingal Integration Team with the Department of Foreign Affairs / Irish Aid are supporting four groups to host events to celebrate Fingal Africa Day 2024 on May 25th.
Africa Day is the annual worldwide celebration of the people, cultures, and potential of the African continent which will take place on Saturday 25th May 2024. This year, the Fingal Integration Team with the Department of Foreign Affairs / Irish Aid are supporting four groups to host events to celebrate Fingal Africa Day 2024. These events are a chance for people to come together to celebrate the diversity of Africa, and include contemporary African-Irish culture, as well as family fun days, fashion, art, music, dance, and food events. The events will take place in various locations across Fingal.
African Advocacy Network Ireland will hold a family friendly fun day with music, African food, traditional dance. An award ceremony will take place to celebrate role models within the African community whose contribution brings a positive image to Irish society. The event will take place in Corduff Community Resource Centre, Dublin 15 from 15:00 to 19:00.
Balbriggan African Community will showcase traditional African poetry, music, food, and costume. The event will also include live performances by youths and presentation by two Youth Motivational Speakers on their Lived Experience. The event will take place in Flemington Community Centre, Balbriggan from 13:00 to 17:30.
Lusk Community Council and Lusk Redeemed Church will celebrate “Irish African Voices” with an African Culture Exhibition, Music, Singing, Dancing, and a podcast on Irish African Voices in Lusk Cultural Centre from 12:00 to 17:00.
Fingal Ethnic Network (FEN) will host an event to celebrate Africa Day in Blakestown Community Centre from 14:00 to 17:00. The event will showcase different cultures through music, food, dance, and discussions.
Mayor of Fingal Cllr Adrian Henchy said ‘The range of events taking place across the county will allow everyone in Fingal to engage with the celebration of Africa Day 2024 and the native cultures of their neighbours and friends in the African community in Fingal.’
Chief Executive or Fingal County Council AnnMarie Farrelly said ‘We in Fingal County Council through our Community Development and Integration Team, are delighted to once again support Africa Day in Fingal which is always a vibrant and diverse cultural celebration.’
Naomi Weir, Senior Executive Officer, Community Development Division, Fingal County Council said “The promotion of social inclusion and integration is a key pillar underscoring the work of our Community Development Staff throughout the year as they work to empower and support sustainable and inclusive communities. Initiatives like Africa Day provide a valuable opportunity to engage more closely with, and to celebrate, the native cultures of our many African communities living in Fingal”.
