Congratulations to the Fingal Groups on the 2024 Tidy Towns Results
Huge congratulations to the fantastic volunteers who ensured that 2024 was another hugely successful year for Fingal in the National Tidy Towns Awards.
It was another hugely successful year for Fingal in the 2024 National Tidy Towns Awards, with gains in points and medal wins seen across the county.
This year, Ballincollig in Cork was named the National Winner from over 900 towns competing for the prestigious awards, demonstrating the huge interest in the Supervalu TidyTowns Competition which has been running since 1958.
The dedication and hard work of the Tidy Towns groups across Fingal were also rewarded. Skerries picked up a County Second and a Gold Medal, while Malahide were awarded County Third and a Gold Medal. Swords were awarded a Gold Medal, while Balbriggan achieved a Bronze. There was also success for Clonsilla, the group receiving an Endeavour Award for the biggest improvement by an entrant in the county from the previous year.
Mayor of Fingal Cllr Brian McDonagh commented: ‘Huge congratulation to all the dedicated volunteers in the Fingal Tidy Towns groups, who work with great pride to enhance the areas where they live. Building sustainable communities is essential and it is very encouraging to see how these groups harness the enthusiasm of young people and are winning awards in the Circular Economy and Pollinator category. I was particularly happy to see the Portmarnock Tidy Towns group doing so well, up an extra 13 points from last year’.
There were a number of special award winners with Rush winning the National award in the EPA Circular Economy category, where Swords were highly commended. Balbriggan were regional award winners in the Young Persons in TidyTowns and were highly commended in the Pollinator Award. Alongside this, it was a welcome return to the competition this year for Balscaddan and Oldtown.
Mary T Daly, Director of Services, said: ‘I am delighted to see the excellent marks achieved by the Fingal Tidy Towns groups and the special and county awards and medals won in another hugely successful year. The work carried out by the Tidy Towns is invaluable and Fingal’s Operations Department look forward to continuing to work with and support all the volunteers. Their work has a hugely positive effect in their communities as well as contributing to sustainable development in Fingal.'
