Council statement on softball tournament in St Catherine's

STATEMENT

Short timeframe means building facilities for 2023 international softball tournament is not feasible

Fingal County Council has informed Fastpitch Ireland and Softball Ireland that the timeframe for delivery of the required facilities in St Catherine’s Park, Lucan, for an international women’s softball tournament next June is too short.

The Council initially agreed to support the hosting of the event on a greenfield site in St Catherine’s Park and spent the last few months, along with both organisations, scoping out the requirements.

Following this exercise, it has been determined that there is not enough time available to go through what would be a detailed design, planning, procurement and construction process, the cost of which would be borne by the Council.

The Council will continue its dialogue with Fastpitch Ireland and Softball Ireland about the provision of a permanent home for softball in St Catherine’s Park and remains committed to the creation of lifelong patterns of involvement in sport and physical activity for everybody.
