This year’s Fingal Athletics League was launched at ALSAA Sports Complex on Friday March 7th, 2025. Fingal County Council and Morton Games have announced the continuation of their partnership, founded last year with its mission to promote the growth and development of athletics in Fingal.
The collaboration between the Fingal Athletics League, known for its commitment to grassroots development, and Morton Games, a World Athletics Continental Tour International track and field event, brings together two pillars of athletics in Fingal. By joining forces, both organisations seek to create unparalleled opportunities for young athletes.
The Fingal Athletics League has been running for nearly 20 years and started with just a handful of schools in Balheary Park, Swords. This year’s programme will include 60 primary schools and 2,700 students participating in 5 race meets. The first two race meets will take place this week in Porterstown Park and Newbridge House, followed by a second round of race meets in April. The culmination of the programme will bring all schools to ALSAA Sports Complex in May.

The launch of the Fingal Athletics League and announcement of the partnership was attended by the Mayor of Fingal Cllr. Brian McDonagh, Director of Services, David Storey, Meet Director of Morton Games, Noel Guiden, 2025 National Intermediate Cross Country champion Helena Butterly of Clonliffe Harriers AC, Fingal Sports Development Officer, Noel McManus and students from Swords Educate Together National School.
Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Brian McDonagh commented ‘The Fingal Athletics League has been a fantastic participation programme for nearly 20 years. It gives children the opportunity to take part in the lifelong physical activity of running with the bonus of representing their school.’
David Storey, Director of Services Fingal County Council added ‘We see the athletics league as a gateway opportunity for children to join their local athletics club or Junior Parkrun. The legacy effect of the programme is to give children the confidence and competency to continue a lifelong journey in running and physical activity.’
