Fingal County Council and Graphic Studio Fine Art Print Residency Award 2024
As part of the ongoing commitment to professional artists, Fingal County Council Arts Office, in partnership with Graphic Studio Dublin, is offering two fine art print residencies.
Fingal County Council Arts Office is delighted to announce the Graphic Studio Dublin Fine Art Print Residency Award. As part of the ongoing commitment to professional artists, Fingal County Council Arts Office, in partnership with Graphic Studio Dublin, is offering two fine art print residencies. These residencies are open to professional artists at any stage of their careers, working in any discipline, who are interested in exploring print processes.
The two-week long residencies will provide an ideal environment for developing a creative project in printmaking and offer an opportunity to network with other artists. Selected artists will work with a Master Printmaker and a professional printing team to produce a series of limited-edition prints. The artists’ proofs will enter the Fingal County Council Municipal Art Collection. The residency will take place from November 2024, at a date agreed with the successful candidates.
To be eligible to apply, applicants must have been born, have studied, or currently reside in the Fingal administrative area. The applicant must be a professional artist at any stage in their career with an interest in printmaking. No printmaking experience is necessary.
The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Brian McDonagh commented that “Fingal County Council and Graphic Studio Fine Art Print Residency Award 2024 is an extraordinary opportunity for professional artists at any stage of their career to explore printmaking under the guidance of a Master Printmaker.”
Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly, added, “we are pleased to collaborate with the Graphic Studios Dublin to support professional artists and expand the Fingal County Council Municipal Art Collection with their artists proofs at the end of the residency.”
County Arts Officer, Sarah O’Neill said, “Fingal County Council is proud to support professional artists born, having studied, or currently residing in the Fingal. These residencies enable them to expand their practice in a supportive environment and community.”
Derval Carroll, one of the recipients of this residency award in 2023, says of her time at Graphic Studios Dublin “It was fantastic to have access to the equipment at the Studio and more importantly, to the knowledge and the experience of all of the artists that I met there. My mentor, was brilliant in answering my million and one questions and let me try different techniques and experiments, all with patience, encouragement and enthusiasm.”

Additional information
After a successful career in business development for 20 years, Deval Carroll undertook a portfolio course at the Limerick College of Further Education with a view to pursuing her lifelong passion for art. Following this she graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in Fine Art Painting from Limerick School of Art and Design in 2020.
She works through painting, digital media and printmaking, describing herself as a multi-disciplinary practitioner. Most of her work is currently made in Limerick where she lives, but she has many connections with Dublin where she recently undertook the Graphic Studio Dublin Fingal Residency to further and deepen her understanding of printmaking practices.

About Graphic Studio Dublin
Graphic Studio Dublin was established in 1960 to facilitate the process of engaging with the medium of printmaking to express artistic ideas, and to facilitate the development of successful working practices for artists through all stages of their careers.
We provide printmaking facilities and technical assistance in a supportive working environment, and teach the skills needed, to enable artists develop successful working practices, and to engage with print media to extend existing art practices.
Graphic Studio Dublin facilitates the following print techniques: Etching, linocut, drypoint, carborundum, woodblock, aquatint, photo intaglio, blind embossing, collagraphy, letterpress, mezzotint, and screen print. Technical assistance and education of artist members in the above printmaking techniques is core to our ethos.
