Fingal County Council and The RHA Studio Award 2024

Fingal County Council Arts Office, in partnership with the Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) School, is pleased to announce the 2024 RHA Studio Award. This prestigious award offers a professional artist a funded studio space for one year, beginning in October 2024.

Fingal County Council Arts Office, in partnership with the Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) School, is pleased to announce the 2024 RHA Studio Award. This prestigious award offers a professional artist a funded studio space for one year, beginning in October 2024. 

Open to practicing artists at all stages in their professional careers working in visual art, applicants must have been born, have studied, or currently reside in the Fingal administrative area to be eligible to apply.

The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Adrian Henchy commented that “Fingal County Council and RHA Studio Award 2024 offers a Fingal artist a significant opportunity to develop their practice within Ireland’s oldest artist-led visual arts institution, where art is created, exhibited, and debated.”

Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly, added, “we are pleased to collaborate with the RHA to provide a professional artist with access to a funded studio space for one year, supporting their artist growth and professional advancement.”

County Arts Officer, Sarah O’Neill said, “Fingal County Council is proud to support this crucial annual initiative that enables a professional artist to research, develop new work and expand their practice.”

Aoife Dunne, recipient of this residency award in 2023, says of her time at the RHA ”The residency has provided a great opportunity for in-depth advancement of my current projects, allowing me to refine my techniques, experiment with new materials, and explore new concepts. I am very grateful to Fingal County Council and the RHA for the support and space."

Aoife Dunne is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the intricacies of contemporary existence through ambitious digital installations, fusing sculpture, video, sound, performance, technology, and costume.

Her approach incorporates improvisatory, interactive, and performative elements, harnessing digital technology in innovative ways. Her research centres around the profound impact of technology on our perception of place and the dynamic interplay between physical and virtual spaces. With a dedicated focus on exploring the transformative effects of these influences on reality, identity, and community.

During her time on the residency Aoife continued her research on the impact of technology, examining concepts of identity, intimacy, and the nature of reality, further exploring the intersection between technology, art, and embodiment.

Aoife Dunne (B.1995, Ireland) graduated from NCAD Fine Art Media in 2016 and has since exhibited extensively internationally. Her work has been featured in prominent exhibitions, including shows at The Museum of Contemporary Art Denver USA, The Royal Academy of Arts London, and The Irish Museum of Modern Art. Dunne's practice is characterized by its multidisciplinary nature, constantly pushing the boundaries of digital art and its exhibition.

The RHA School is a purpose-built facility within the RHA Gallery consisting of individual studios, open plan drawing studios and a library. It is an artist-led space for the provision of skill-based learning in Visual Art. Central to the RHA Schools activity is peer learning where knowledge and experience can be passed from artist to artist. The RHA School supports both traditional and contemporary approaches to art making, and its offerings aim to enhance the skill set of artists working in the varied and shifting arena of current art practice.

The RHA School is for professional artists who wish to up-skill or re-engage with their practice, third level students who wish to develop and practice skills in drawing, painting and creative use of materials. It is also for professional artists who wish to acquire specialised knowledge. The RHA School responds to these aims with a varied programme that includes drawing groups, residencies, workshops, masterclasses, seminars and public lectures.
