Fingal Libraries annual celebration of creative writing and literature, The Write Time Festival, was launched by the Mayor of Fingal Cllr. Brian McDonagh at the Carnegie Free Library, Swords, on Monday, 7th October 2024. The Mayor was joined by the Chief Executive of Fingal County Council AnnMarie Farrelly, County Librarian Betty Boardman and some of the writers who will be taking part in the festival, Patrick Bentley, David Gilna and Paula Guildea.
Now in its ninth year, the festival will run from 1st to 16th November across Fingal Libraries. This year’s festival introduces a new two-day showcase of author talks in the Carnegie Free Library, North Street, Swords, on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th November.
Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Brian McDonagh said: “I am delighted to launch the Write Time Festival, a marvellous celebration of the craft of writing in Fingal. The programme for this year’s festival is sure to spark the imagination and inspire creativity”.
Chief Executive of Fingal County Council AnnMarie Farrelly said: “Whether you are an aspiring writer or a reader, the Write Time Festival has something to offer everybody. The range of free events will provide you with guidance for your writing journey and give you the opportunity of meeting some of your favourite authors to find out what inspires them.”
County Librarian Betty Boardman said: “Fingal Libraries is delighted to welcome an outstanding group of writers to take part in this year’s festival to discuss their work and engage people in accessible creative activities. We would like to extend our gratitude to author Kevin Curran for bringing together a brilliant line-up of writers to take part in the programme at the Carnegie Free Library.”
The library programme features a fantastic group of facilitators who will guide aspiring writers on their creative journeys. Workshops range from poetry, to writing for teenagers, and from personal essays to writing a perfect pitch for your screenplay. If you have lots of ideas but can't get them down on paper, there will be workshops to help you get started.
The new two-day event in the Carnegie Free Library features a line-up of stellar authors, such as Sinead Gleeson, Claire Kilroy, Christine-Dwyer Hickey and many more ‘in Conversation’, sharing their creative writing process, their journey to publication and what inspires them. This event will allow unique access to writers in a beautiful new Fingal venue which is aimed at fostering creativity in the community and laying foundations for cultural programming in the Swords Cultural Quarter and the new County Library and Arts Centre.
The Write Time will have something for everyone who loves writing and literature this November - and all for free. We encourage you to come along and be inspired by people you meet and the stories you hear. Pick up a copy of the festival brochure at your local Fingal library or view it online on our website:
