Fingal Libraries Write Time Festival was launched by the Mayor of Fingal Cllr. Seána Ó Rodaigh at Rush Library on Tuesday 31st of August.
The sixth annual Write Time Festival organised by Fingal Libraries celebrates the written and spoken word in Fingal. This year the Festival will be a solely virtual affair with talks and workshops for children and adults being made available on the Fingal Libraries YouTube channel and uploaded to our social media platforms throughout the month of September.
The Mayor, Cllr Ó Rodaigh said “I am delighted to see such an extensive range of activities celebrating the written and spoken word throughout the month of September in Fingal. There is something for everyone to spark the imagination and inspire creativity. I encourage people of all ages to participate in what will be a fun and inclusive festival.”
Director of Services Emer O’Gorman said “The Write Time festival is a great opportunity for aspiring writers of all ages to learn from practitioners of the trade – writers and facilitators who are successful in their own genres. So whether you write just as a hobby or would like to get published at some stage, these talks in Fingal Libraries will be of benefit”.
County Librarian Betty Boardman said “our sixth Fingal Libraries Write Time festival will be a different experience this year. Because of COVID-19, we cannot have an audience present, but people can still enjoy the workshops, talks and other events in their own homes through YouTube and our social media channels. If you are feeling creative and would like to make a start on a short story, personal reflections or even a novel, this is a great place to begin.”
This year’s programme features an “interview” style event conducted by Irish writer, journalist and broadcaster Edel Coffey in conversation with renowned travel writer Manchán Magan. Anne McDonald will provide a 4-week creative writing course for adults and Orlaith O’Sullivan will provide a creative writing course for teen wellbeing. Award winning children’s writers Shane Hegarty, Jackie Burke & Lucinda Jacob will provide online videos for kids to inspire and create interest in reading.
