Fingal Managing Volunteer Awards to be announced at Virtual Ceremony

Fingal County Council Community Development Office and the Fingal Volunteer Centre are delighted to announce that the Fingal Managing Volunteer Awards Ceremony will take place via Zoom on December 17th. The Awards which focus on promoting good volunteer management practice in community and voluntary organisations across Fingal were launched back in 2011 by the Fingal Volunteer Centre’s and Fingal County Council. The awards ceremony will feature an address from Mayor of Fingal Cllr. David Healy and will be recorded with highlights made available to view on the Fingal County Council website.
The Awards are intended to acknowledge groups who, through their commitment to voluntary and community activities, have played a significant role in enhancing the quality of life of their communities across Fingal. Ireland has a long history of volunteering and according to the most recent CSO data, over 1 million people in Ireland volunteer, which is over a quarter of the adult population. Volunteering can happen both informally and formally and the Fingal Managing Volunteer Awards ensures that groups who wish to, or already involve volunteers in their work, have good volunteer management systems in place and are a safe place to volunteer therefore both protecting the service user and volunteer.
Speaking about the awards Mayor of Fingal Cllr David Healy said: “As the Mayor of Fingal I look forward to speaking at the virtual Fingal Managing Volunteers Awards 2020. This year during the pandemic has demonstrated the phenomenal willingness of Irish people to volunteer and help in a crisis. Since March 2020, tens of thousands of volunteers registered nationally to offer their help during COVID-19 and I commend their fantastic contribution, and also, importantly, that of the organisations who support and manage those volunteers.”
Fingal Chief Executive AnnMarie Farrelly said: “There is a fantastic spirit of volunteerism in Fingal and I would like to thank all those volunteers for the fantastic work they are doing in their communities. I would like to take this opportunity also to commend Fingal Volunteer Centre for their great work in supporting volunteering in Fingal for the past 10 years.”
The Fingal Volunteer Centre is an independent charity organisation working with volunteers and volunteer involving organisations and has been in existence for over 10 years at this point. It also runs a socially inclusive Event Volunteers Programme which involves volunteers in one off community events in Fingal. Supported by Fingal County Council the Fingal Volunteer Centre is a one stop hub for all your volunteering needs whether you are an individual willing to help or organisation looking for volunteers.
